Father Cassidy, Mr Dickey (the schoolmaster), and some others, were present on its arrival, it was decided f o open the coffin, which was enclosed in a hermetically sealed case. When the outer case was opened Mr Dickey looked through the glass in the coffin lid, and uttered an exclamation of horror. Father Cassidy also looked, and he states that he saw the eyes of the deceased open and shut. The coffin was at once opened, the body taken out, and an attempt made to reanimate it by every means. Meantime Dr Blunden was sent for, but being away from home his services could not be obtained till several hours later. The means for revnimation were kept up for over an hour, but without success, and when Dr Blunden arrived he pronounced life to be extinct, although he admitted that the body had an unusual life-like appearance, especially considering that deceased had been.drowned five days previously. It is also stated that none of the officers or crew fo'lowed the body to the cemete'y, and the conduct of all concerned is charattoriuod us heartless in the extreme. The correspondent adds; —“ One more question, and that is—Why was thero no inquest? Ttie papers say he died of hvart disease, and I don’t say he didn’t, hut how could any person toll when there w.is no exam nation of the body, not even the clothes removed I ” Baxter’s Lung Preserver has gamed great popularity in this district as a and effectual remedy in the treatment ot Goughs, Colds, Bronchitis and othei chest and throat complaints.
