COALMINERS' STRIKE.
Melbourne, August 29. With a view to the development of Victorian coal mines the Government have offered to give 25s per ton daring the present year for coal required by the Government Departments '■ and 22s -6d during next year. Newcastle, August 29. The miners on strike are making efforts ti induce the southern men to also go out, A number of those who went out on strike here have accepted work in the coal mines in Tasmania and Queensland, Stdkbt, August 80. The miners now out on strike have issued a manifesto to tbeir fellow workmen aid the general public of Australasia, appealing for aid in their endeavor to obtain their demands from the masters. The Hon. J, N. Brunker, Minister of Lands, ia mediating in the colliery dispute, and it is stated that there is a possibility of a settlement of the difficulty. The Maritime Labor Council have objected to the miners abandoning negotiations with the masters, but they have promised them their support in the ! strike.
