THE GREAT LIBEL ACTION.
London, August 15. It is stated that the libel action brought by Mr Parnell against the Times cannot possibly be heard before January next. Ii is' believed in some quarters that tho action will collapse owing to tho news agent serving tbe Times having no copies of the paper in which the alleged libel appeared. It is announced that the initial preparations under the Commission Bill must bo made before S*pl. 17th. The rumor that Mr Parnell intended to retire from Parliament pending inquiry by tbe Commissioners is without foundation. August 17, The Times in referring to the libel actions brought against that paper by Messrs O’Connor and Redmond, expresses tbe opinion they ; are intended simply to distract and divert attention from the larger issues. It announces that the actions will be defended, but it is intended to prove the charge before tho Commission.
