A CURE FOR DIPSOMANIA.
Two men having be n sentenced to a month's imprisonment for being drunk and disorderly, a medical practitioner obtained the permission of the authorities to try upon them a new method of treatment. They were removed to special quarters and informed that all their food would be dressed as they might prefer, either with wine, gin, or any other kind of spirituous liquors. Our topers accepted the proposal with the greatest delight, and nearly came to blows over the choice of the liquid. The first day everything passed off > well, and ample justice was done the viands. The second day there was a slight falling off in their enthusiasm, still they ate with good appetite. The third day they took very little, and began to think that alcohol was all very well in its way, but that there j werelimitg. . . The fourth day they declined all nourishment. The fifth' day they took a solemn oath to starve sooner than touch the sickening diet. But the doctor was firm, and, impelled by hunger, after a three days' fast, they consented to eat the only food that was offered to them. At the month's end the fellows were liberated. They were perfectly cured, for ever since the very smell of wine or spirits would cause tbein to faint.
