WRECK OF A STEAMER AND LOSS OF LIFE.
Adelaide, July 13. The ship Star of Greece, Captain Hanover, bound for Great Britain with a cargo of wheat and two paesengtrs, lias gone ashore near Willunga, thir'y miles south of this city. The weather is very rough, and the ship has broken in two. Four of the crew have been drowned and only one has so far succeeded io reaching the shore. July 14. Th» after-part of the Bhip Star of Greece disappeared early this morning, and many of the crew, iududiog the captain, were drowned. Several were crushed to death by the wreckage. Six men jumped overboard together, but their effoits to reach the shore were unsuccessful, and all perished. The beach is strewn with wreckage, and many of the bodies hive been seen washing about. The total number of persons on buard was twentyseven (including the t#o passengprs), and of these the first and third officers, four men, and four apprentices have been saved. All others were drowned. The chief officer expresses the opinion that all would ha?e been saved had ihey stuck to the remnant of the vessel. The South British Insurance Company have a line of £2OOO on the ve&sel, which lorded with whe'it. The names of the drowned are unknown at present. July 15. One of the crew of the wrecked ship Star of Greece declares that Captain Hurrower was drunk at the time of the accident. The chief officer denies this, and Bays thtt the captain was perfectly sober. The harbor authorities are severely blamed for their dilatorineas io despatching the rocket apparatus to the scene of the disaster.
