TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Hoard was held; on Wednesday. Present Messrs! Acton (chairman), Wilson, Morris, Teschemaker, Talbot, Flatman, LeCren, and Jonas. Mr Rosa apologised for non-attendance. , ; . ;
Mr Richard Turnbull,. Member tor Timaru, wrote acknowledging copy of the Board's Amending Bill, and* stating that he would introduce it in the House. Mr Arthur E. G. Rhodes, Member for Gladstone, wrote promising to assist Me Turnbull in getting the Bill through. Messrs McEwan and Go., , London, advised that the goods ordered by the Board wou>d be sent out in the barque Ganymede. * ■
Captain Palleson, whose services as dredge master had been dispensed with wrote asking theßoard to ’ take his case into consideration. When engaged for the dredge be understood the work was permanent. Members considered they could not go into the matter. Messrs Perry and Perry wrote about the verdict in , the Shaw-Sa?ill case, and m respect io. the, Amending Bill now before the House. !l i *
The Engineer reported that hardly any work has been done at lifting the randwtn blocks" since last' meeting; tl% sea not having been- sufficiently ‘oalnr at low ‘-.-iThe ..litt)e. work done was showing satisfactory results. The first load of rubble stone in connection with the north mole contract was| delivered on the 9th inst. The work iince then had proceeded steadily and satisfactorily. Repairs to the engines add boiler of the* Titan bid been completed and new sponsions added to the paddje boxes. The entrance light wis lit on the llthinst. It throws i* powerful beam. Since last meeting the Taoiwhs had. dredged and discharge la bout 3400 tons of spoil in 25 wotking days, Mr LeCren wished the-. Engineer to report frequently whether there w«s any change in ihe accumulation! of shingle to the sdutK of the breakwater. £*}e harbour in reported the arrival of 25 steamers and 6 sai iog vessels of am aggregate tonnage’ of SOQfS, and i|,* departure of 24 ste m-rs and | mdl la, vesse s, of a total tonnage 8734 durine tlta month ending Slat May. 6
