CONCERT AT WOODBURY.
A concert was held in the Woodbury schoolroom bn Thursday’ evening last in aid of the funds of the Woodbury Cemetery Board. The members of the Board have done their, utmost to raise funds to carry out the.work that is j required on the new cefhetery. Their voluntary efforts 7 bri 1 behalf of the. public, however, 1 ’do not appear to have, as the; audience at the concert was very limited, Mr Middlemiss,V f Chairman of the Board, occupied the chair, and stated the purpose for which the concert was held. He also regretted the absence of several persons who had been very ready to promise support to f the undertaking. The programme arranged for the.,evening was a good one,- and was faiihfdlly gone through. A pianoforte duel by the Misses Dean was much enjoyed. Mr Thatcher sang “ The Englishman ” in his usual Successful : manner. The song, “ 0, Where is Heaven,” by Misi D unlop, was a capital; item. “ The Gambler’s Wife,” a reading by Mr Fergusson, narrowly escaped evoking an encore. Miss Dean ; rendered “The Brook” in good voice, A Scotch song, “ The braw, braw Lads,’’ by Mrs Fergusson, was an enjoyable item. Mrs Thompson was very successful with the song “ Scenes that are Brightest.” Mrs Hammond’s fine voice was heard to, advantage in the song “ Ask me Again.” Mr J. Aitken quite took the house with the recitation “ The Tarn of the Nancy Bell.” Miss Miller secured a thoroughly welldeserved encore for her singing of the fine song “ Rothesay Bay,’* Mr Musgrave also secured ah encore’ for his rendition of the song “ All the World's a Stage.” The second partjOf the programme was opened, by Mr Coventry with some ‘Scotch airs on the cornet with ! pianoforte accompaniments by l MrsTqrton. This was a really, good item; *nd much enjoyed. , Miss. Deannas again very successful with, the The Old Lock.” Miss' Andrews' 1 secured a unanimous’ encbrci * ! 'for 5 her song “ Katie’s reading “ Horatius ” waV ah excellentitem. Mrs Greaves rendered “ Afterwards “ 5 capitally MfpTbatcher rendered “The Russian Bear” ia good voice, ahd was encored] ir “ ? &oye Not,” by. Miss Miller, ! wke^ :, oilsijjd item. Miss Dunlop and Mr Aitken rendered the duet “ The Crookit Bawbee ” in capital voice and style, .“Again, again, and again/’ comic song by Mr Musgrave, brought down the house, and 1 he narrowly escaped being encored for the song with which ho responded. - ; : i\
The usual rotes of thanks were passed to the singers aud to those who bad assisted with the concert. The singing of thO-Natipnal Anthem closed the concert! •'*
