THE CHINESE QUESTION.

The Tfcsmaniaa Government dissents from the decision of tbe Chines* Conference and the objections wired by Lord KnutHford. AH the other colonies are eatiified, but Western Australia, being a Crown colony, did not expsess any opinion. The Victorian Chin«se have drawn up a petition protesting against past injustice, and considering the present law sufficiently stringent. At Newcastle forty Chinese on board tiie Chang Sha waited on the Captain, armed witb knives and tomahawks, and insisted on the payment of £lO each before they returned to China. The money was paid.
London, June 14. The City Press commends the decision arrived at by tbe Chinese Conference.
June 16.
The House of Commons applauded Lord Carrington's message giving the result of the Chinese Conference in Sydney. Lord Knutsford states that the expressed terms of the treaty as proposed by tbe Conference cm be negotiated with China.
June 16.
The Times urges the Marquis of Salisbury to commence energetic parleying with China oo the Chinese question, as it considers delay will only aggravate the difficulty.
