TEMUKA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Committer of the Teuouka Benevolent Society was held in the Town Board Office on Monday, 11th of Juno. The following members were present—Messrs,K. F. Gray (Chairman); J. Morton, J. W. Milea, R. MeUon, G. Dyson, M. Quinn, Rov. Li. S. Btma, and the Rev. T. A. Hamilton (Hon.. Secretary and Treasurer). The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman stated that the meeting had bean convened at the wish of two of the members, who thought it desirable that (be public should know how the funds stood.

The Sacretiiry submitted thy following report; The Teinuka Benevolent Society was constituted at a public meeting held in tbe Town Board Office on June 11th, 1885, and a considerable »moiiQt of distress was immediately relieved and work given to the unemployeJ. About October of the same ygsr the Charitable Aid Act came into force, but until its operation wis understood hpp'icitions for relief were constantly received. During the three years there have been eight meetings nf the General Committee, relief being accorded when necessary by tbe Sub-Committee. The total funds hive amounted to £56 lis, £27 14s being the Government subsidy, and the remainder subscriptions and donations. The amount now remaining in the Bank of New Zsa'and to the credit of the Society is £l9 1.2 s 6d. Fifty-t wo orders for relief —in goods o ty (iti no case has cash been suppled)—have bean issued on Messrs Job Brown, E. Brown, fllyth, Siegert and Fauvel, Lee, Thomson and Smith, Allan and Yuivii), Bo. tun, Tom be, Miles, Mogri ge and Wiltshire, and Gimson, the total amount expenied being £37 14s Id. The Charitable Aid Act nowproviding continuous re i«?f, it was considered advisable to use the funds of the Society for any speci 1 cases arising from time to time which needed immediate relief. Discussion ensued on the merits of the' various caues which had been treated, sad it was found thai in no case had reliof been aforded without careful scrutiny, and unanimity oa the part of the Subcommittee, viz., Mesurs C. 1. Rayner, J. Morton, and thb Secretary. A hearty of thanks to the Chairman and the Secretary was put to the meeting by the Rev. B. S.
