Biadee, asking the Board to clean the drain oo Penny's road, and expressing his willingness to pay half the cost.—Work to be done. I overseer's report. | The Overseer's report was read and dealt with as follows : ; > f ; "Gentlemen,-! have the honor to report for tha p»Ht month as follows; Tenders have beeo invited for carting shingle for repairs. All contracts in hind are just about completed, There are two small jobs authorised some time ago that have not yet been done, viz., re-forming a part ot Epworth road aid putting a culvert in Waitohi Tempe road by Orr's. The latter work 1 have arranged to commence immediately. Regarding the former, it is 'in an unfit e'ate to be done ju>-t new. Very little work his been done during the month: 'More or less aV.ingle repairs are required oh most of the metalle 1 roads in the district. Parts of the Waitohi Main road, Talbot's road, and the Kakaha road require' the sides filling up and made to correspond with the crown of the road. Tne Canal drain that runs from the Middle Swamp road to Milford road requires to be cleaned; the cost would probably s be £—. MalarVey's drain—The pipes" connecting . this drain with the west side of the Milford road are quite clear, but in their present positien do not take, the water to the creek ; to effect this it will be necessary to take up the pipes arid relay, them in the road at the place where' the water enters M'darkey's farm. From that' point to the level of the water in the Mill creek there is at present two feet two inches of fall. v If, however, the watercress, etc., ie ' allowed to spread and dam back the creek Water the full would of course be decreased. In the event of flood water rising the creek, 'h< water would likewise be dmnmed back io Malarkey's drain until the creek lowered. From enquiries I have made 1 do nnt think thel creek is much affected by flood water. The cost of tak* ing out and putting in the.pipes, deepening drain, etc, would probably be about £2 ss. As the Canal drain, Orari, is now deepened to its depth, it would be advisable for 'he Board to decide what plan ttiey intend to adopt regarding the water of Rhodes' creek.—l have, etc.,
"F. AlOlBB."
It was resolved that the work at Malarkey's drain be dona as suggested, and hat ihu Chairman, Mr Bisset, with the overseer inspect and report on Rhodes'* creek. RATB. ; '*■ The question of a rate for the ensuing year was then considered. It/was estimated that (lie ordinary cost of maintaining the present roads, bridges, culverts, and officii expenditure would absoib a rate of jths of a penny in the £. As tbia left nothing for new works or contingencies, it was tinaniraoiiK(y Ji ftgroßd-rr!' r fhat at next meeting the Bourd strike, a rate of £d in tiie £, and that the Clerk take the neoessary steps for dbirig bj." ' TENDERS. : -;| Tenders wera opene I -for* contract No. 28—carting ahinajle. i fori repucs—-as follows :—P.
