In the House of Commons Lord George Francis Hamilton stated that the invasion of England Was remote. He mentioned that the Government were doing everything that was necessary to secure the safety of the colonies and the commercial defences, but many more cruisers were required to protect the merchant shipping and coaling stations.

In the House of Lords the motion of Lord Carnarvon that the naval authorities and shipowners should co-operate for the general defence, tras carried. Admiral Hornby declares that England requires 144 additional fast cruisers.
