GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting of this Beard was held in the Board’s office on Tuesday evening last. Present—Messrs J. Mundell (Chairman), W. S. Maslin J. A. Quin, and W. Berry. ;■ IEKDSIIS. For lighting and cleaning lam|s for twelve months—C. Groves, £49^108. For, leasing the bush reservei—G. Ward, 3s per acre.. MISCELLANEOUS. An application was received from Mr A. Sherratt to erect a building in front of his timber yard. —Granted on condition that the facing boards be carried up to the ridge. . | It was resolved to serve a, notice upon the Volunteer corps for the payment of their fee for the hall, as a place of entertainment, or action would he taken at once. The clerk was instructed to write to the constable in charge, with a view to putting a stop to the practice of writing obscene language upon the asphalt of the footpaths. r This being all the busihesft the Board adjourned.

RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Geraldine — Wednesday* MaV 16,1888. [Before Captain \vray, R.M.] CONVEYING PASSENGERS WITHOUT A LICENSE. Box was charged on. the in--3 formation of Constable Willoughby " With this offence. The defendant stated that he had not taken out a license through ignorance of the bydaws. He thought the license he held would last him till June next.

His Worship adjourned the case to sallow of defendant taking out a license. CIVIL CASES. E. H. Peaipoint v. P. Pauli—Claim - £6 16s 6d.—Judgment by default, with costs. Same v. J. Plack—Claim £53 Is Id. - —Judgment by default, with costs, and solicitor’s fee £2 2s. Same -v. Michael Piney Claim £8 12b 4d.—Judgment by default, . with costs.

D; Comptons-Claim £4l 11s lOd ; judgment summons. — Defendant not appearing, ho was'ordered to pay £1 per week, the first instalment to become due that- day week; in default of any pafment being made the whole amount to become due, and in defaulbfour weeks’ imprisonment.
