THE CONCERT.

A. concert in aid of the prize fund or the Orari Bridge school was held in the school on Thursday evening last. Ic was a decided success, the roots being crowded to excess, and the excellent programme provided being carried through without a hitch. , The usual floral decorations were arranged on the platform. Mr B; Bartrum, Chairman of the School * Committee, occupied the chair, and in his opening remarks referred to the excellent progress made by the school while under Mr G. Steven. The school had just passed one of the best examinations of any school in the district. This result . was partly - owing to the regular attendance of the children, but more to the industry displayed by their present master, to whom the parents were very much indebted. Misses Ellen and E. Bean opened the programme with a pianoforte selection, and were deservedly applauded. Mr E. Logan followed with the well-known song, " The Little Hero." The Geraldine Glee Club, who were present under their leader Mr T. Sherratt, contributed the glee - " From Oberon in Fairy Land " in a manner that was truly enjoyable. " The Showman's Courtship," a comic reading by the master of the school, Mr Steven, caused a great deal of amusement. The duet by Mr and Mrs Bartrum, "I would that my Love," was a very pretty item nicely rendered. The glee, " Awake JEolian Lyre," by the Glee Club, was the next item, and was capitally given. In fact all the items by the Club were a perfect treat. Mr W. Coltmanrd junr., although suffering from a severe T cold, rendered the song "The 801 l Call" splendidly, and was loudly applauded. Master John Grant recited " Barbara Eretchie " very ni3ely indeed. Miss Miller, who was in good, voice, received a well deserved encore for her singing of " Half-mast High," and responded with " Eemember or Forget." Mr J. Aitken recited " The Frenchman and the Valentine,", a comic piece, which created a deal of fun. Mr J. Thatcher scored a great success with the song " The Mistletoe Bough," and in response to an encore gave a comic song, " Blatherskite." After the usual interval the Glee Club rendered " The Wreath " beautifully. Miss Dean followed with, the song "Close to the .Threshold," Mr T. Sherratt playing a violin, accompaniment. Mr J. Aitken again amused audience with the comic recitation " The Tarn of the Nancy Bell." The next song by a gentleman," The Three Jolly Smiths," was a capital item, and was loudly encored and responded to with another. Master John McLean recited * The Fall of Dasser " in a capital manner, and was loudly applauded. Miss E. Dean contributed the song " Laddie " beautifully, but the length of the programme did not , allow of a well-merited encore being responded to. Mr Coltman next sang " The Young Brigade " in fine stylo, and was loudly applauded. The Glee Club followed with "The Cuckoo Sings." The song « Killarney,'' by Miss Miller, was another enjoyable item, which was loudly applauded. Mr- Logan came next with the comic song " What a Blessing," which was heartily encored and responded to with '«My Wife's Relations."/ Miss Andrews was is splendid voice, and contributed the song "Maggie's Secret" in her usual successful manner. Mr Thatcher rendered • " Britannia, the Pride of the Ocean," the audience joining in the chorus with great effect. An encore was demanded and " Colonial Edmction" was given. The singing of the Nationa* Anthem closed the concert. The usual votes of thanks were passed to all those who had assisted at the gathering. A dance was held afterwards, to which a good number stayed. The music was provided by Messrs Geo. aad Adam Rae, Mr A. Fergusson acting as M.C»
