TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held last evening. Present —Messrs Gray (Chairman), Coirs, Blyth, E. Brown, and Mason. minutes. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
overseer’s report.
The Overseer’s report was read as fol-
lows : Gentlemen,—l have the honor to report that since last Board day one man has been employed cleaning out watertables and part of Yiue Street drain days ; also 1 man 2 days repairing dividing fence between Mechanics’ institute and Board’s yard. With respect to Vine Street drain'—On the east side it would be an improvement to fill up from the lop end above Wood crossing to a gradual grade to the section occupied by Mr Bolton. The material could be taken off the side of the street. I don’t think even then the sewage from the Tprauka Hotel would get away without it whs flushed. In fact, lam of the same opinion as when I reported some years ago, th*t a good job will never be make until 12in pipes are laid and the drain fi led up. The drain on the other side requires cleaning, as does also the drain running through Mr Quinn’s paddock, before the winter sets in ; aiso water-tables in several parts of. the town. A few leads of shingle are required. The balance in Bank, after paying into the credit of the Board rates £33 12a lOd, dog codars £6, fee under building regulations ss, amounts to £76 5s 6d, —I am, etc., Geo. Dtson.
Some conversation took place as regards Vine Street, ibe Overseer saying that nothing could be done with it unless pipes were put in it —Mr Coira remarked that the pipes would fill up, and they would be of no use, and ulti mately it was resolved —“ That the west side of Vine Street, also the drain through Mr Quinn’s paddock, be done during the ensuing month, and that the repairs recommended by the Overseer be done.”
INSPECTOR 01 NUISANCES’ REPORT,
The Inspector of Nuisances report was read as follows -
As Inspector of Nuisances, I the honor to report that the anitary condition of the town is fairly good, with the exception of Vine Street drain.
