Concert and Ball at Woodbury.—A concert and ball in aid of the children's traati takes place in the Woodbury Bchoolroom on Friday evening. We hope to see the school crowded on the occasion.

The sale is well worthy of the attention of buyers. Singular Fatal Accident.—A lad named Michie! Murphy, about 9 years of age, came by his death at Ohristchurch on Sunday afternoon in a rather singular manner. W.th two or three companions he was on his way horns from Ssnday Sohool, and they stopped for a gams near the Montreal street bridge. While playing near one of the abutments one of the boys gave Murphy a slight pu»h and he fell againßt the stonework. He staggered up on to tbe bridge, where he fell, and on being lifted up fell again, and a passer-by carried him to the hospitul whore he died a few minutes after admission. I

Dsrretf, the well-known jockey, hud hia collarbone broken at Lower Heathoote on Saturday. He had just won the Hack Race when the horse he was riding fell and he wai thrown, with the result above mentioned.

Conobbx AT Tbmoka.—ln our advertising oolumns will be found the programme of the concert to be given in the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, on Thursday evening next, in aid of the incidental fund of the Temuka District High School. It it oae of the beit that has ever been placed before the public of Temuka, aid should be quite sufficient to draw a bumper houie. It may also be mentioned that the incidental fund sadly needs some additions made to it, and it is to bit hoped that the parents and friends of the ohildren will by their presence on Thursday evening render the entertainment a financial •uooen.

The Wtiimnkiriri rose in heavy flood, but fell rapidly on Saturday morning. At the Gorge the river on Friday night rose ten feet, but fell five feet on Saturday morning. At Kaiapoi the water broke through the embankment at Charles Street about one o'clock on Saturday morning, and the northern part of the town was flooded. The water, however, did not attain within two feet of the loundaticn of lot June, The greatest height was reached at 6 a.m. Little damage was done to the railway, but a good deal to the small bridges, the onlveits, and the corn in stook. Not much live >tock was lost. The iUkaia wns in heavy flood, and four piles of the railway bridge were carried away, The passengers by train walked over the bridge on Saturday. Gbbaldihb Football Cltjb.—This Olub opens the seassn on Thursday next with a match to be played between teams chosen by the captain and vice-captain. The following are the names of the captain's team :—B. Mabin (captain), Kalaugher, A. Stewart, Millard, J. Hiskens, Brooker, Brown, W. Pye, Totten, G. Taylor, J. Turner, W. Sherratt, Heatley, and J. Colbert. The names of the vice-captain's team are as follow i—H. N. Hiskens (vice-captain), Fitze»rald, D. Stewart, Coltman, Burn, Bennett, Flaming, J. MoKenzie, Stonehouse, Morrison, G. Slack, Logan, Hitchings, Harding, and W. B. Fierce. Flay will commence at 3.30 p.m. sharp. The Club is now very strong in numbers, and with plenty of practice should do well this season. It is especially requested that the members turn up in strong force on Thursday next when a very good match is looked forward to.
