A BRUTAL ROBBERY.
Dunbdin, Maroh 19.
A daring and brutal daylight robbery was perpetrated at Dunedin early on Saturday evening. At. a quarter past lix William Slattery, 19, who had been working up oountry, was drinking with two companions, and on leaving the premises all proceeded down Jetty street. Turning to the right Blattery was suddenly assaulted by the othur two. One etruok him a blow on the left temple with a gin bottle which shivered in his ha, d, and both struggled with him upon the ground and managed to stifle their viotim's cries while they rifled his pocketp. Blattery, however, was conscious, and resisted stoutly, succeeding in holding on to his puree with one hand. The ruffians tore his trousers pocket several inches down, and extricated 17b 6d. At this junotnre an alarm was raised by an unseen spectator, and they were obliged to decamp, A young woman who saw the assault wu able to describe the men, and the police shortly afterwards arrested George Anderson, and Charles McQrath. Both bear indifferent characters* Blattery had' lent the latter £2 or £3 a few hours before the robber;. Tue injuries sustained by Slattery proved to be very severe, and he I will be unable to leave the hospital for some | days.
