England and France will not agree to tha modification proposed by the Porte in the Suez Canal .Convention.
Mr D, Thomas, Home Kuler, has been returned for the vacancy for Merthyr Tydfil caused by the resignation of Mr C, R. James. Lord Walter Lennox, brother of the Earl of March, has been returned for the Chichester seat unopposed. The vacancy was occasioned by the resignation of the Earl of March.
Several agitators from this city have been convicted ia Ireland under the Crimes Act, and sentenced to seven months' imprisonment with hard labor. New York, March 12.
Uuequalled snowstorms were experienced in this city and the vicinity to-day. The city has been frozen into a state of inactivity. Street and railroad traffic has been stopped, and telegraph lines broken. Business is completely blocked, the people being afraid to venture out,
Sofia, March 14.
Major Popoff, commandant here, has been arrested on a charge of embezzling Government moneys, The defalcations are reported to be of considerable extent
