WINCHESTER FOOTBALL CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the members of this club was held on Saturday evening last. There* was a good attendance. In the . absence of the President, Mr GL A. Smith was voted to the chair. ; MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The report for the past year waff read as follows: Your Committee, in presenting their annual report, have to congratulate the' Club on their success during"the past season. The Club played fix matches, winning two, losing two; and drawing two. The total number of points scored by the Club was 21, against 11. ■ Your Committee 1 ope that the success attending the Club during the- past will encourage them to make farther headway during the coming season. To ensued this it is necessary for members to attend practices regularly, and “ roll up ” to matches punctually to the time appointed. The ground is in good order;; bat wa are given to understand that the trustees, are taking steps to have it ploughed, and, therefore, it behoves the Club to do their best to retain the ground in ita present state. The Club wound up last season with a dance, which proved very enjoyable, and. was the means of bringing the : game of football in Winchester into greater prominence. The dance referred to was held in Mr R. Smith’s woolshed, and, ia consideration of this and other services rendered the Club, your Committee recommend that he be elected a life member. The number of members at the end of last season was 25, and it is hoped that this number will be largely increased during the coming season, The balance-sheet, which we place before you, shows a credit balance of 2a Id.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. , LIFE MEMBER, On the motion of Mr H. Bennett, seconded by Mr A. Shsllard, Mr R. Smith was unanimously elected a life member of the Club. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows President, Mr F. Barker j Vice-Presidents, Messrs R. Smith; H. Smith, Cochrane, and W. Deßenzy; Captain, Mr Q-. A. Smith; Secretary, Mr F. Shallard; Treasurer, Mr T. Harte, Mr H, Bennett being elected Treasurer pro tern, ; Committee, Messrs H. Bennett, Gf. A. Smith, A. Shallard, W. Stewart, E. Wagstaff, and W. Lewis. Mr F. Shallard was appointed to select the teams for matches. PROPOSED EUGBX UNION, A circular letter was read from Messrs Wood and Groodall, Timaru, re the proposal to form a Rugby Union for South Canterbury, and the matter was discussed 1 at cpnsiderable length. ' :i ‘ Messrs G. A. Smith and H. Bennett were appointed delegates to attend the meeting to be held in Timaru on March Bth. It was decided to instruct the delegates that the Club did not think it desirable to form a Rugby Union in South Canterbury. THE GROUND. It was decided that the Committee _ should meet the Cricket Club Committee to arrange matters about the ground. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved to continue the subscription the same as last year, namely, 2s 6d; those picked to play in the first fifteen to pay 2s 6d ■ extra. Wednesday next was fixed as the , opening day, and a vote of thanks to the outgoing committee and also one to the chairman terminated the meeting.
