Mahon, of Auckland, has been appointed to the command. There are 255 competitors in the first match, of whom 187 are riflemen and 63 carbines. The Taranaki men and a few of the Wellington representatives, who were to leave by the Takspuna, are expected to-day. The competitors are highly pleased with the range, which has a dark green background, the only fault being with the direction, which is northwest. Misses will easily be seen, the ground at the rear of the targets having recently been harrowed. There are 25 targets, and Captains Collins and Sommervillo are sanguine of completing the whole meeting by Saturday evening. The prize money was based on the assumption that there would be 320 compeiilors at the meeting. The Executive Council just held has decided that £25 be struck off the rifls matches, and £SO off the carbine matches, including the aggregate. For the North Ulago match £l2O has been subscribed by (he people of Oaicaru, and as the donations are all cash ihere will be no trophies for this match. When the ammunition was opened this
