NEW REAPER AND BINDER.
The latest candidate for popularity in the reaper and binder line is a Canadian machine introduced by Messrs Priedlander Bros., of Ashburton. It is entitled the Massey Iwo-Horsa Light Steel Binder, manufactured by the Company which has given it its name in Toronto, Canada, and, judging from what we saw yesterday, it bids fair to come to the front. It was tried in a very heavy crop of wheat belonging to Mr A. M. Clark, at Riverslea, and it worked to the entire satisfaction of these present. The leading feature of the machine is that the whole framework of it is steel and all in one piece, and thus there is no danger of it getting out of the square. It is very compact, and' bakes' up much less space than other machines, owing to a large portion of the,,tying gear being underneath. Owing to the driving gear being less cumbersome its draught is much lighter than ocher machines, and two horses can work it with the greatest ease. Another improvement is that it can make sheaves of any size, or all of them of the same size, and the castings are made of such material as will not break. The Canadian agent, Mr C. McLeod, proved this by using pretty, freely a hammer on the parts, iwhich if made in the ordinary way would have broken" quickly. It is claimed, that the durability of the castings will save not only much annoyance, bill a great deal of money to the , purchasers, as they will not easily break, A feature of the machine was that it made very little noise, and that none of its parts appeared to go at any rapid speed, and yet all worked so harmoniously that one could net help thinking that its mechanician! had been adjusted with great skill. The farmers who were on the ground spoke in high terms of the way it worked, and signed a testimonial which was to the effect that it worked in every way satisfactorily, that though small it had a graater capacity than other machines, and that no other machine could do belter work. This was signed by Messrs T, Parke, A. M. Clark, A. Colville, J. Findlay, J. W. Walker, 0. Woodley, .I. B; Waremg, and several others. Those who attended were most hospitably treated by tyr A. M. Clark, who had a liberal supply of refreshments on the ground.
