FIRE BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION.
Oheistchuech, Feb. 20
The Fire Brigade Association met this morning. The annual report stated that six brigades had joined during the year, making 43 brigades oa the roll, with a membership of over 1000. The balance-sheet showed receipts £494 3s 9d, expenses £392 7s, credit balance £lOl 16s 7d. A protest from the Spit Brigade against the alteration of the conditions for hose and hydrant competition for five men was not allowed. The question of admitting Fire Police and Salvage Corps to the Union was deferred till next conference, the executive meanwhile to draw up special rules applicable to them. Papers were read from Captain Page on providing proper accommodation for and. pecuniary assistance to brigades, and making suggestions for working brigades. Captain Mitchell reported that he had been unable to obtain remission of part fares for delegates travelling by the Union Company’* iteftmers.
