TEMUKA MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE.

The annual meeting o£ members of the Temuka Mechanics’ Institute was held in the reading-room last evening. On the motion of Mr Mason, Vr Campbell took the chair. The minutes of the previous meetwere read and confirmed. The balance-sheet showed that the year was commenced with a credit balance of £22 12s lid, that the Government grant was £l6 9s Id, the subscriptions £3O Os 6d, sale of waste paper 10s 6d, making a total of £6O 13s. Of this sum £Bl 4s 9d was spent on books, £2l 10s 3d for the librarian, and £5 9s 7d and other small sums on other matters, leaving a credit balance of £4 12s Bd.

A long discussion took place as to the advisability of reducing the subscription to the Institute, but nothing definite was done, and ultimately, on the motion of Mr Lee, seconded by Mr Mason, the balance-sheet was adopted. The following officers were then elected, viz. President, Mr James Blyth; Vice-President, Secretary and treasurer, Mr H. M, Miles; Committee, Dr Campbell, and Messrs Archer, Lawson, E, Lee, Mason,

Goira, Gentlemun, Edwards, and Brjars, On the motion of Mr Mason, seconded by Mr Lawson, a fote of iihanks was passed to the retiring officers; also to Mr Bout for auditing she accounts.

A rote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
