SMALL BIRDS' NUISANCE.

Mr W. Coltman laid upon the table lus monthly report of the eggs and birds collected. It showed that duri g the month he had purchased 3773 dozen of eggs and birds at a cost of £47 2s 3d. A short conversation took place upon the matter, members agreeing that during the prevalence of th« present dry weather to injustice vras being done to the district by the bridge not being erected, as the river was almost dry. It was also thought that the changes being brought about in the Education Act might so affect the school as to make the bridge unnecessary. It was decided to let the matter stand over for the present, overseer's report. The Overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows “ I have the honor to report for the information of the Board as under Fair progress has been made with the works in hand during the month with the exception of tha shingling at Waitobi Downs, co which the contractor is only now beginning work.—The following works have been completed : Rock neat traffic bridge, Geraldine, and bridge near coal pit, Kakahu. Skinner’s Road, Redcliff: I have pegged out the line of road and called tenders for formation and shingling, The road is now being fenced off ae directed. —Bridge near Kakahu Bush: The late heavy floods have damaged this bridge, and it is now unsafe for traction engines or very heavy loads, and will require to be replaced shortly with a new one at a higher level, and giving more waterway.—Rates: I have received oh account of general rate £760 7s 6d to date and have prepared a list showing the amounts outstanding.—l am, etc., “W. Shmrs, “ Overseer, ’ The action of the Chairman re Redcliff road was approved of. It was decided to apply to the County Council for aid towards the works at the Kakahu Bush bridge. INTERVIEW. Accounts amounting to £355 11s 7d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated. , AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs E. Lee (Chairman), Austin, Proudlock, Bdgel«r, and Story. INTERVIEW. Mr Lynch interviewed the Board in reference to the amount of his rates. After some discussion be agreed to accept the amount of valuation as fixed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Treasury Department, intimating that after the present financial year the Government would cease paying rates under “ The Crown and Native Lands Rating Act, 1882.” From the Geraldine County Council, intimating that the second moiety, £4 18s amount of the Board’s contribution for the half year ending March 31st, 1888, towards the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, was due on the Ist, and requesting payment. . From Mr W. ValentW Miller, intimating his willingness to -undertake consulting or other work for the Board. RESERVE, Two tenders wer« received for the lease of Reserves 2770, 2769, and 2771. That of Geo. Washington at the rate of 30s per acre was accepted. Tenancy to date from Ist January. 1888. . The tender of Richard Austin for Reserve 2742 was accepted, at the rate of 10s per annum, the Board to have the privilege of entering upon the reserve at any time without compensation. MISCELLANEOUS. The Clerk, on the motion of Mr Austin, seconded by Mr Proudlock, was instructed to write to the Crown Lands Department re balance of subsidy due on Arowhenua Village Settlement. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was received, and it was decided to authorise him to arrange for shingling the footpath in Alexandra street. BATES. It was decided to extend the date for final payment of rates for one week only. Any rates then unpaid to be sued for without further notice. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £34 0s 7d were passed for payment. The meeting then adjourned.
