GERALDINE Y. TIMARU. This match took place in the Geral. dine park on Tuesday last. The Timaru men arrived about 10.40 a.m.in a four-in-hand drag, tooled by Mr W. S. Lindsay. The match having been on the tapis for some time, quite a large amount of interest waß taken in it. Not much speculation was indulged in, however, asto the result of the game, as it was generally expected that Timaru, which now boasts a really excellent team, would be able to walk over the Geraldine men who have just resuscitated the local Club. The result, however, was not expected to be such a complete boil over for Timaru. Mr Mi J. Q-odby , captained the visitors, and Major M®ore the home team. TheTimara men were in Bplendid form. The bowling of Messrs Hughesand Eothwell was exceptionally good, and dead on the wicket, only one bye, and two leg-byes being made. The Geraldine men went to the wicket first, Messrs "Ward and Bryars .facing the bowling of Rothwell and Hughes. The former was soon disposed of by Hughti forO. The latter pujt together a carefully played-for seven, before;; "falling & victim to the samebowlerr' Pearpoint had succeeded in adding two to the score when he was stumped by the

Timaru Captain. H. Moore and Major Moore were both neatly caujjhfc,by Hughes from Rothwell's bowling, 4he\ I former having placed three to his side's , credit. F. Fish and T,. Bethune retired without having raisffi the total, being bowled by Rot» well and Hughes respectively. "Wilson-' Smith played a careful innings, and put together a neat twelvt. Unfortunately for his side he was run out. A. Erskine had succeeded* in securing one whe»: he .was nicely caught by Morrison from one of Eothwell's balls. Slackg, lost his. wicket to Hughes withbufrscoring, andf Mabin, the not-oiit man, retired with four to his name. The visitors then went in and gave a fine exhibition of batting. Eaymond was disposed of by Pearpoint for five. jMullins was neatly caught by Wilson-Smith from Fish's bowling after putting together five. Lawrenson wasalso caught by

Wilson-Smith off the same bowler, having knocked up nine. C. Perry had put together a neat seven when he also played a catch into the hands of Bryars who held it.. Eothwell played a capital game for fifty-three, and then fell a victim to Mabin. Morrison added fire to the total; and was then disposed by a straight one from Pearpoint. A; and Hughes put together three' and nine respectively, and both retired before the same bowler. Malcolmson loit his wicket to Mabin without scoring, and Eraser succumbed to the bowling of H. Moore, after having -put together thirty-four by an exceedingly wellplayed innings. G-odby, 'the captain carried out his bat after having put together the splendid score of seventythree. The bowling of the;Q-eraldine ■

men was of a very second-rate orders their opponents collaring and pla'pj ing havoc with it. The homer team then went in. again for their second innings and were wi disposed of for 39,. making a total «t i 11. Ward, the last man in, n**£* cleverly caught by Morrison from ftfl bye, hit within a few minutes of stumps being drawn. The match was ' thus saved from being a draw, which, would probably have, been the case had a few more minutes elapsed. The Hon. Captain .Dundas and D> Pish acted as umpires. The visitors were entertained at lunch at. the.
