A telegram received in Auckland yesterday stated that in the Rotorua district, the geyser kno*n as Te Wairoa suddenly threw np boiling water 200 feet high, with large quantities of fish ready cooked.
About 55 designs have been received at Wanganui for the new N.Z.R. A. Champion Belt, but no, decision will be arrived at until there is a meeting of the council. The meeting at Oaraaru will commence on Monday, 17th February, not the 29th as stated in the programme.
A deputation of citizens waited on the Wellington Underwriters' Association on \Vedoeaday urging a reduction of the fire insurance rate now current. The Association promised that the representations of the deputation should receive consideration at a full meeting, and that a reply would bo forwarded at an early date. At ft special meetiog of the National In* surance Company resolutions which were passed at tbe annual meeting to open a share register in London and Australia were confirmed. The chairman fatsted that daring the next six months any shareholder could have 25 per cent of his shares transferred to the London register, but after that they would be dealt with by priority ef application. The body of William Miller who fell between his vessel and the wharf at Greymouth was picked up on Wednesday afternoon lying on some stones under the wharf, close to where be fell in. There is a slight abrasion close to the temple. Mark McCallum, storekeeper for Messrs Scott and McLean (of Napier,) at Wimbeldon, near Wainui, disappeared from the latter place last Friduy with £3OO in his possession. His borae, with bridle and uaddle, has been found on the Porangahao ranges. It is supposed that ho has committed saioide. An information has been laid against him for embezzlement, and a warraai issued for his arrest. A series of dastardly outrages on horses belonging to Mr A. Bryson, of Napier, have been committed during the past few nights. Two have had their eyes put out, and a third has been severely cat on the side. In the Compensation Conrt at Napier J. D. Williams was awarded £SOO for land taken by the Minister for Public , Works at Hastings for station purpoaoe.
