ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Dec. 8, It is expected that H.M.S. Royalist, 12 guns, will relieve; H.H.S, Diamond on the Australian station, At a banquet to Mr Service a large number of leading colonists were present. Increasing importance is attached to Mr Pritchard Morgan’s discovery of a gold bearing quartz reef in the Gwynfydd mine, near Dolgelly, in North Wales. A powerful syndicate, of which Mr Morgan is Chairman, has been formed for the purpose of carrying out an elaborate scheme of gold prospecting in North Wales. Mrs Trevanion has, in the Divorce Court, received a decree nisi for dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery on the part of her husband, Coleman, who was arrested in connection with the demonstration in Trafalgar Square, has been sentenced to 12 months’ penal servitude. . It is reported that Prince Chung is dead, and that the Prince of Wales has sent a letter of condolence to bis friends. The Fisheries Commission has adjourned until early in January, It is reported that Sir Charles Topper was opposed to an amicable settlement of the disputes being arrived at. Berlin, Dec. 8. The medical advisers of the Crown Prince express considerable doubts as to the growth in the throat of His Imperial Highness being cancer. The Crown Prince is now sanguine of recovery. Vienna, Deo, 9, A military conference, presided over by His Majesty the Emperor Francis Joseph, was held to-day to discuss the action of Russia in assembling troops on the frontier, It was decided that no immediate measures should be taken, as the massing of Russian troops on the 1 Galician frontier has been stopped for the last few days, but it was resolved that if these tactics were resumed Austria would also make active preparations. St, Petersburg, Dec. 10, The semi-official journal ridicules the scare of Austria regarding the massing of Russian troops near the frontier, AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, Dec. 9. The announcement of the shipment of 300 French Convicts from La Rochelle for New Caledonia was discussed in the Assembly last night. The Premier, replying to a question on the subject, stated that bis Government bad communicated with the Imperial Government, requesting them to make representations to France upon the matter.
