AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co, report sales for the week ending Saturday, 10th Dec., 1887, as follows At the Geraldine monthly stock sale on Wednesday, a satisfactory amount of business was got through during the day. The total numbers yarded were 568 sheep, 139 head of cattle, and 35 pigs, The whole of the entry was sold, with the exception of a few dry cows, at the following prices ; Sheep-—Crossbreds, in the wool, 4 and 6-tooth, fat, 13s Id ; shorn crossbreds, full mouth, light weights, 7s to 7s 6d. Cattle—3-year-old steers, in forward condition, £5 7s 6d ; 3-year-old stores, £3 12s 6d to £4 ss; 2-year-olds, £2 5s to £2 7s 6d ; yearling steers and h'dfers, £1 5s to £1 19s ; cows in full profit, £3 10s to £4 17s 6d ; dry cows, £l, £2 2s 6d to £3.

Pig£—Sows for breeding purposes, £1 Is; strong stores, 8s 6d, 9s 6d to 13s; small stores, 6s 6d. Land—Associated with Mr T, Bullock, Ashburton, wo submitted on account of Dr Fish, a quantity of valuable suburban allotments, The position and quality of the land offered was all that could be desired. Competition was good for the first lot up to £24 per acre. This not being considered good enough, the lot was withdrawn, and at auction only one lot was sold adjoining the Geraldine Dairy Factory at £ll 10s per acre. Privately we have several enquiries and the sale of several of the allotments is now pending, At our rooms, Geraldine, on Saturday, we held a very successful sale of clothing, produce, etc., at satisfactory rates.

On Friday morning, on the tools being let down at the South Pacific oil bore there was, a sudden burst of oil, which shot up above the derrick and immediately took fire. On the flames being extinguished about five o’clock in the evening, the oil was found to be within 4ft or sft of the top of the pipe. The engine and boiler which works the boring torts were saved.

At the Invercargill Police Court yesterday, Drew, Captain of the Schooner Awarua, was fined £SO for having 176 seal skins in his possession during the close season, in default three months. D. Fox, mate, for the same offence was fined £lO or one month, They were previously mulcted in like penalties for killing ten seals. Counsel asked that the sentences should be made concurrent, but the Court declined, the offences being very serious. «»wairww imw tin— mmm ■■mm
