TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs E. F. Gray (Chairman), J. Blyth, G. Mason, E. Brown, and P. Coira. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received— From the Treasury Department, intimating that the sum of 10s, for fees received at the Eesident Magistrate’s Court for breaches of the Byelaws, hid been paid to the Board’s credit at the Bank of New Zealand. From the Colonial Treasurer acknowledging receipt of a resolution from the Board objecting to the proposed constitution of the county of Waimate into a separate Hospital and Charitable Aid District, and promising that the same should have the attention of the Government,

From Mr Joseph Whitehead, applying to have the name of Isaac Morris substituted for his on the rate roll in respect of sections 293 and 294. Mr Morris wrote consenting to the same.—Deferred to the Clerk. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2119s were passed for payment. overseer's report. The Overseer’s report for the past month was read as follows; Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that since last Board day one man has been employed $2 days and 6 hours cleaning out water tables, etc. ©wing to the wet weather the last two months the grass has grown considerably along the water tables, necessitating a man being constantly employed at this work, but I think another week or 10 days will complete the] work for the summer.—-Ten-ders have been invited for concrete kerbing in Main South Koad, from Ewan Boad to Casa Street, a distance of about 16£ chains.—The balance in Bank, after paying in £l4 2s Sd.for rates and 10s received from Paymaster-General for fees from R.M. Court, is £166 Is 7d.—l am, etc., Geo. Dtson. INSPECTOR OJ NUISANCES’ REPORT. As Inspector of Nuisances I have to repoit that several complaints have been made about a cesspool in a paddock in the town and I inspected the paddock on Monday laat and found a great nuisance, as the pit was quite full of all sorts of vegetable matter and liquid. The owner not being at home and not returning until Thursday (to-morrow) I told the servant that it would have to be remedied at once. Consequently be filled up the bole, but did not let off the liquid, therefore it overflowed on the next section, and complaints have again been made to me to-day, but the owner not being at home I did not know ’how to proceed. Tomorrow I intend to take action if the owner returns.—l am, etc., Gio. Dyson. THE BOARD’S SCAVENGER.

A letter was read from Dr J, S. Hayes, complaining of the neglect of the night soil contractor. After some discussion, in which the frequent complaints made were adverted to, it was decided that Mr Davis be given notice of the termination of his agreement with the Board as scavenger, owing to repeated complaints, and that the Clerk be authorised to advertise for applications for the position of scavenger to the Board. The Clerk was authorised to appoint one of the applicants. 3WNDEES. Tenders were then opened for contract, 42 Kerbing, Main South Road —G. H. Lynch, £56, or £3 4s 9d per chain; J; Whitehead, £52 14s, or £3 2s per chain; W. Hopkinson, £SO 3s, or £2 19s per chain; W. Fletcher, £47 17s, or £2 18s per chain.—On the motion of Mr Coira, seconded by Mr Mason, Mr Fletcher’s tender was accepted, it being the lowest. Applications wore received for the position of Clerk of the Works, from Messrs W. G. Rutland and J. Whitehead, Mr Whitehead stipulat-

ing the lowest amount per day was appointed The meeting terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the chair.
