COMMERCIAL.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday, there were large entries of cattle, very moderate entries of fat sheep ; a good number of store sheep and fut lambs were yarded. Fat Cattle—Entry larpe; quality middling. One or two exceptions were very good, though not extra heavy. Bullocks sold at from £6 5s to £9 per head ; heifers and fat cows from £4 5s to £6 12s 6d, being at from 17s to 21* per 1001 b as per the quality, Messrs Miles and Co. sold for Mr A. Grant 12 head at from £5 7s 6d to £5 17s 6d. Store Cattle—Demand fairly active, moat, if not all, lines changing hands at late values, viz, • at from £4 10« to £4 16s for three-year old steers ; a few lots of store cows and heifers sold at from £2 15s to £3 10s per head. Young cattle were dull of sale. Dairy Stock—A small entry and a poor demand ; little business doing. Eat Sheep—Small entry, the principal part being shorn, and the quality all round being only average ; values about on a par with recent markets. Crossbreds, in the wool, sold at from 12s 6d to 15s; shorn crossbreds at from 7s 9d to 12s per head, being at from 2d to 2|d per lb for mutton in the wool, and to 2d per lb ahorn.— Messrs Matson and Co. sold for Mr J. G, Ruddenkluu, 76 crossbred wethars at 9s ; the N.M. and A. 00. sold for the Pareora Estate 200 crossbred ewea at 8s 6d. Store Sheep—The following are the principal sales made;—A line of 790 merino ewes in the wool at 4s 4d; 82 crossbred ewes at 9s 9d 93 ewes and lambs at 7s 3d ; 159 very superior hoggets, 10b 2d ; 306 merino ewes, 4s; 210 crossbred ewes and lambs, 7s 6d ; 172 ditto at 7s 4i ; 160 mixed ewes and wethers at 7a ; 191 ewes and Jambs, 7s id ; 388 fourtooth mixed crossbrads, 9s Id ; 317 cross bred ewes, with 90 percent, of lambs, 10s ; 160 hoggets at 7» 7d ; 419 crossbreds at 6s. Fat Lambs- Large supply j demand moderate. Primest quality sold at from 7s 6d to 9s | Inferior and middling, 4s to 6s. Pigs—Middling entry, demand not very good, and values were easier. Porkers sold at from 16s 6d to 27s ; stores, 10s to 14s 6d.

CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE The Corn Exchange reports for (he week ending Friday evening, the 18th inst. After the carnival week, business has again settled down in its old groove, there being plenty of sellers of both wheat and oats, but buyers decline doing business, unless for absolute orders on hand. Freights to London continue firm, so that there are not such large shipments as was anticipated. The showery weather has been all that could be desired for the pastures and the dry land crops, but in places on the heavy low-lying lands, the opposite has been the result. "Wheat —Farmers are now anxious to quit their remaining stocks, but merchants are very chary about dealing, except at reduced rales, consequently business for the time being is of a very limited character. Hunters has been quitted in small parcels at 3s 2d to 3s 3d, and tuscan and pearl at 3s 4d, Second quality is taken chiefly for chicken wheat at 3s, broken is quiet at 2s 8d to 2s 9d. Oats—We have but few sales to note. Milling are not in large stock, but millers are fairly well stocked, and there is no outside demand. Wo quote Is lOd nominally, short feed are changing hands in small lots at Is 8d to Is B£d, and long feed are dull at Is 7d. Barley—dSTo malting samples offering ; seed, demand past. Beans—Yery little enquiry, worth 3s Id to 3s 2d. Peas—Prussian blues, fit for seed, 3s 6d, feed kinds 3s. Grass Seed —But little business is expected until autumn. Owners are now holding their stocks over. An occasional order comes from the South for cocksfoot, which is worth 4|d for heavy bright seed, inferior is unsaleable, Potatoes—Small orders continue to come to hand and are easily supplied at 13s to Isa at country stations. Dairy Produce—No better market as yet presents itself. Several of the factories are arranging for shipments to London, which ought to have the effect of easing the markets. At present there is no quotable values. The above prices are those paid to farmers and delivered f.o.b. Lyttelton. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKES. The following is the report for (he week ending Wednesday ; Wheat —There is no change to report in the market for this week, millers still being unwilling to operate. Stocks held in, store are very light, but consumers being fully supplied there is little opportunity of effecting sales at anything like satisfactory prices. Quotations are:—For best milling tuscan and velvet, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; ordinary, 3s 4d to 3s sd; inferior, 3s to 3s 3d. Oats —A moderate amount of busi-. ness has been done for shipment during the past week, and prices are slightly improved. * Best heavy milling, Is 9d to Is 9|d ; short stout feed, Is 8d to Is 9d; medium, Is 7£d to Is 8d; inferior, Is 5d to Is 6d. Barley—There are no sales taking place, the market being cleared out of all descriptions. Sheepskins—On Monday country dry crossbred skins brought Is Id to 4s 4d ; do do merino, Is 2d to 3* lid ; dry pelts, 4d tp lOd ; green pelts, 4d to 7d ; butchers’ green crossbred skins, 4stoss3d; dodo merino, 8s 8d to 4s 4d ; lambskins, 8d to Is 2d.

Hides—A rather better demand exists, and prices are now firmer. Quotations! are as follow-.—lnferior and bulls’, l|d to 2d; light, 2|d to 2£d ; medium, 3d to 3|d; heavy, 3|d to 3fd. Tallow—A good demand continues to be experienced, chiefly Lorn local manufacturers, who purchase all offering at prices, leaving but a very slight margin for shipment. Inferihr and mixed, 10s to 12s; medium to good, 13s to 16s; best mutton, 17s to 18s; rough fat, inferior, 5s to 7s; medium to good, 7s 6d to 9s; pure caul fat, 10s to 11s.
