GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

I The monthly meeting of this Board i was held in their office on Tuesday ; evening last. Present —Messrs J* i Mundell (Chairman), J. Williams, ; W. S. Maslin, W. Berry, N. Dunlop, J. A. Quin, and E. Taylor. , minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE, Outward correspondence was r and approved of. Inward was read as follows: — From Messrs Priest and Holdgate, Timaru, re the new lamp ordered by the Board. From several Town Boards in New Zealand, expressing their willingness to heartily co-operate with the Board in endeavoring to obtain an amendment in the l own District Act. CHAIRMAN'S statement. The Chairman informed the Board of what had been done by the Works Committee with regard to the position of the lamps erected on the Main Road. He stated that in accordance with a resolution of the Board he had seen the poundkeeper re pounding cattle off the roads within the town. The poundkeeper had declined to pound them unless he were a servant of the Board. It was resolved that the recommendation of the Works Committee to have all the lamp-posts a uniform height, and the lamp opposite the Oddfellows’ Hall moved to a better site, be adopted. 1 overseer's report. The Overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows: — Sir, —I Imvethe honor to state for your information that nearly all the roads within the district have been trimmed up, water-tables cleared out, and big stones broken, so that every street and footnath is in good order and condition. Very litt ! e labor expended on them will maintain them. During the month I have received rents :—W, H-ney, 6s ; J. Wil. liman, £1 2s6d. Tithes—J. Huffey, £ll, Be Mr Young’s application—l would prefer the Works Committee ta view the spot, when i could fully explain.—l am, etc. C. E. Sheuratt, Oversser. GOESE UPON HOADS. Mr Taylor drew the attention of the Board to the strip of gorse growing on the road near Mr Coombs’. The Overseer was instructed to see to its being removed. WATER-SUPPLY. The Chairman stated that since the last meeting of the Board he had returned the cheques sent by Mr Tripp as a donation for a survey for a waterrace from Reid’s Creek to the township, Mr Tripp, however, again returned them. On the proposition of Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Taylor, the Clerk was instructed to pay the £4 4s to the credit of the Board, and communicate with Messrs Moason and Marchant as to the cost of a flying survey, and communicate with the Board at its next meeting. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £27 12s 2d were passed for payment, and the Board resolved itself into a LOCAL BOARD OP HEALTH. The Inspector of Nuisances’ report was read. The same did not call for any action, and the meeting then terminated. DOMAIN BOARD. A meeting of the Geraldine Domain Board was held afterwards. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. RESERVE. Tenders for leasing the reserve opposite the Roman Catholic Church were opened as follows: —W. S. Maslin, £2 per annum; T. Herlihy, £3 ; J. Mundell £slos. The tender of Mr J. Mundell was accepted. RANGERS REPORT. The Ranger’s report was read : —lt showed what had been done in the way of improving the Park aud other reserves. The Chairman stated that the men employed by the Board had been dismissed. —The action of the Chairman was approved of. It was decided to call for tenders for catting the gorse in the two parks for the year; tenders to be accepted by the Chairman and any two members of the Board. It was decided that the key of the gates and the pavilion should be kept by the Overseer. The Chairman stated that he had been requested to ask for a gateway to be allowed in the fence between the Literary Institute section and the park. —The request was not acceded to. ACCOUNT'. Accounts amounting to £lB 2s 2d were passed for payment. FINANCE. The financial position of the Board not being satisfactory, Mr Maslin proposed that the Chairman should call a public meeting for the 14th lust, for the purpose of discussing the maintaining of the oval and public park, the amount advanced by the Town Board (£140) being nearly all expended in improving the parks. This was duly seconded and carried. The meeting then adjourned.
