The Chamber «f Deputies hap appointed a Select Committee to enquire into charges made against General Caffarel and M. Daniel Wilson in connection with the recent War Office scandal,

President Gitvy and the Cabinet are offering most strenuous opposition to an enquiry into the War Office scanda l . It is believed that if the Chamber of Deputies persists in its demand that Committee shall investigate the mat er both the President and the Ministry will resign.

Wilson having insisted upon being permitted to explain his conduct to the Committee of the Chamber of Deputies respecting his connection with the War Office scandal, President and the Ministry have withdrawn their opposition to the inquiry being bald. M, Wilson refunded £I6OO for (ranking private letters despatched by him with President Grevy’s stamp. The Committee of the Chamber of Deputies unanimously resolved that it was necessary a searching inquiry should be made into the War Office scandal.
