CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 28th inst. ;

During the week business has been limited. The weather is now all that can be desired for the crops, aad if better prices were likely to rule farmers would have cause for congratulation ; as it is there does not appear any reason for hoping that better values will be obtained, as, if anything, prices here, for wheat especially, are weaker. Wheat is a shade easier on the week, and holders are more anxious to se’l. Quotations: Tuscan and pearl, 3s §d; hunter’s, 3a 4d; second quality, 3s to 3s 2d ; chick wheat, 2s 8d to 2s lOd.

Oats—A fair local demand has been noticeable, but buyers’ limits prevent any increase in values. Bright milling, Is lOd to Is lid ; heavy feed, Is 9d to Is 9|d ; sparrow bills, Is B£d ; stout danisb, Is 7d to la 7|d. Bar'ey—Malting • is quits-out of the market, and the only sales are small lines for seed at prices from 3s 9d to 4s 6d.

Peas and Beans—There has been no enquiry during the week, and prices remain at late quotations. Grass Seed—The season being over nothing is doing in ryegrass ; from the south a few small orders for cocksfoot continue to come to hand. Values are unchanged at 4jd to 4£d for good seed ; inferior, 2£d to 3d. Potatoes—No regular business can be said to be doing, An occasional order coastwise comes to hand, and is readily filled at prices equal to 12s to 15s per ton at country stations, according to condition. Dairy Produce—The want of an outlet is severely felt, and though heavy shipments of cheese have been-made.to Lon don valujs have riot improved. Quotations are noiriinally 3d to 3£d. Butter is suffering probably more than any other article of produce for want of a market. We have no doubt our spring make would realise good value in London, but it is useless sending sny but really prime. Last quotations for Cork butler showed o range from 76s to 112 s per cwt, say 8d to Is per lb. The above prices are those paid to farmers and delivered f.0.b., sacks extra.
