THE LONDON UNEMPLOYED.
London, Oct. 20. „ Another unemployed demonstration look place at Hyde Park to-day, at which the usual imfiimmatory speeches wer e made, A deputation was sent to Mr Mathews, Home Secretary, who accorded them a private interview. The mob proceeded to Piccadily, but the police charged the crowd, which was dispersed. The Mayor summoned the members of tbs last Mansion House Unemploye i Relief Committee to consider measures for alleviating the present distress in London. Oct. 21, The unemployed in London looted bakers’ shops in Piccadilly, but were dispersed by the police before any further mischief was done, Oct, 22. The unemployed agitation is increasing, Demonstrations continue to be held in Hyde Park, at which inflammatory speeches are made, encounters with the police being numerous. Enormous meetings are to be held on Sunday in Trafalgar Square and the vicinity of Westminster Abbey. A torchlight procession was to proceed to the meeting summoned at Rotherhitbe for Monday, but Sir Charles Warren, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, issued an order prohibiting the procession. A protest has been made by the leaders of the unemployed against the proclamation of Sir Charles Warren on the ground that it infringes the right of free speech. A large force ol military received instructions to be in readiness should its services be required to enforce order.
