CRICKET CLUB FOR GERALDINE.
A meeting of persons interested in tbe formation of a Cricket Club for Qeraldine was held in the Geraldiue Hotel on Tuesday evening last. There were presant Messrs W.M.Moore, R. H. Pearpoint, H. W. Moore. Howard, E. Mabin, J. Fitzgerald, J. W. Pye, i r McKay, E. Millard, J, Turner, W. Holmes, G. Ward, F. Wilson-Smith, und A. Erskine. Mr W. M. Moore was voted to the chair and stated the purpose for which the meeting was called. The minutes of the last annual meeting of the existing Club, held on Sept. 7th, 1885, were read and eonfirrred. The liabilities of the old Club were shown to amount to about £5. The Chairman thought the first question was to consider how these should be paid off. Mr H. W. Moore thought if the old honorary members would give a subscription this year the account could be settled. Mr Wilson-Smith thought a new Club should be formed, and the liabilities of ' tbe old Club not taken over. Mr Pearpoint pointed out that the pre. sent'liabilities existed on account of the Club having spent their funds in improving the grounds. Mr Wilson-Smith proposed—" That a cricket club, to be called the Qeraldine Cricket Club, be formed by the gentlemen present." Mr H. W. Moore seconded. Mr Pearpoint moved as an amendment —•'That the old Club be resuscitated, and take over the liabilities and assets." Mr G. Ward seconded. Mr Holmes asked if that meant that tho old members be asked to pay up last yeur's subscriptions". Mr Pearpoiat said no. There had beea no cricktt last year, and they could not be asked to pay. The amendment was then put and carried by eleven to three. It was decided to leave the question of paying off tho liabilities to the incoming Committee,
It was decided that the general Committee should elect a ground and match Committee.
The Hon. L. Walker was elected President of the Club, and the Hon. W. Rolleston, and Mesars C. G. Tripp, and J. G. Deunißtoun and Dt Fish Vice-Presidents. Mr W. M. Moore wss unanimously elected captain, and Mr H. W. Moore deputy-captain. Mr F. WiUoo-Smith wss elected Secretary and Treasurer. Committee—Messrs H. W. Moore, Pearpoint, Wilson-Smith, Fitzgerald, H. vV. Moore, Brisco, Ward, Hi-bens, aod Dr Fish; four to form a quorum. It was decided to fix tbe subscriptions for the present year at, 10s, and for youths under 17 years of age s*. Each person in the room then put down his name as a member of the club, the majority paying their subscription at once. It was Boanirooosly decided that every playerin a match away from home should pay bis own ooach fare and provide his own eatables, and that on no pretext wbattrar would an account for coach hire, or eatabler be recognised by the club. It was decided to advertise the date of tbe opening match. Mrfl. W, Moore stated that he had canvassed the town, und hud every hope that the Thursday half hoiidaj would be established in Qeraldine It was decided to leave the mat'er of tbe half-holiday in thtj bands of Mr Moore, and a hope was expressed that every assistance would bfl given to th»t gentleman to bring it to a successful issus. The members w»re urg»d to attend praotice regularly, and endeavor to induce other members to join the club, A vote of than'ts to the Chairman terminated the general meeting.
A Committee meeting was held afterwar Js when Messrs Wilson-Smith, H. W. Moore, pearpoint, and Ward, were appointed « Ground Committee to carry out the necessary improvements on the ground at once. The Secretary was instructed to call the Conimilt'e* together when neces»ary and thn meeting terminated. It will thus he seen that a very strong foundation of a good club has been laid, and Qeraldine will no doubt boop bo heard of in the cricketing world.
