overseer's report. The Ovorseer report was road, as follows: I have the honor to report for the informtfcion of the Board ns under : Tho worfes in band havo been delayed considerably by the large quantity of rain which has fallen lately, consequently very little progress has been made during the month. Tho various rivar crossings &nd fords have been econred out in ninny places by the lata freshes, bnfc no serious damage has been done. Sharp's Bridge—l had a temporary footway creeled on tresaela at this bridge to opin the gap, but tho Into flood has carried away out) of the tretsels, and widened the gap at the bri-ige to 80 feet. One extra plank and treasel will be required to restore tbo footway. Slip at Eedcliff—l have pegged out the portion of Mr Setiley's land which I consider oaght to be acquired by Ibis Board for the diversion of road at this pl».ce. Tho quantity will b» a trifle under two acres as shown on sketch. As this road is in a dangerous stats the work ought to be put in band os early as possible. Mr Kelman's application—As instructed I havo examined the place where the water lays in Mr Kelman's paddock. No water was there at the lime. There is st present, however, a large quantity of water dararned back in the paddock, a hrao quantity of which might be let off by removing dead gorse and rubbish from the gap in the fence, {.laced there presumably for the purpose of keeping in the sheep. The w»ttr could be taken down the side of the mdin road, but as a largo /portion of it would run down Shaw's road, the cu'vert on that road, a few chains from the junction, would have to b« taken up and an open ford constructed to e-irry the wnter. It would then flood Mr B.ll's land and do more damage there than Mr Kclmnn now suffers. As Mr Kelman also objects to Urn done tho only alternative is to leave things as they arc, or to corntruet a ford acrois the main ro;.d and lot the water down i through BethuDtj'a land in the original watercourse. Mr Guthrie's application—l I have inspected the river-bad near Captain 1 Temple's. The water is overflowing and running through Mr Guthrie's paddock. This is caused by the silting up of the old channel and could be remedied by cutting a channel, in the shingle bad about three chains long, and turning the strcam.into it. The I cost of doing this would be about £—. ' Brown's drain, Belfield —As directed I havo made an estimato of the oust of the work and forwatded it to the Commissioner of Crown Lands. School Bridge, Pleasant Valley— To prevent the river getting round tho end of Ibis bridge, I should recomms»d that a gp'\r groyne filled with boulders be placed on tbo North tarrace, or in all probabil ty the bridge will require to be lengthened uftnr the nest heavy flood. Rates—-I htye co lected and paid in to ike Board's account the sum of £44114s 7d on account of general rates, whioh are now coming in very slowly. Rangitata Station Road—As the lower end of this road is being cut up by the carting of rocks for the protective worki, a su-faceman is required to fill in the ruts. Public Pound —As directed 1 have insured the Pound, and buildings, and takan out a policy for the sum of £IOO. W. Shibbs, Overseer.

JSe Sharp's Bridge—lt was decided to attend to tbe work. Mr KeluWs application to stand over. jßeGuthtie'sapplic.tion—lt was decided to carry out the work. Bi the Pleasant Valley Bridge—Work to be done. Bt Rangit»ta Station Road- It was decided to apply to the Minister of Public Works to place a surfaceman to fill up

the ruts. *Vith regard to the slip at Redcliff, it was moved by Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr Deßenzy, and carried—" That Mr Sealey be given notice that the Board consider bis price for land required for road purposes at Kedcliff too high, but are willing to arbitrate in the matter;, and should this not meet Mr Sealey's news the Board'will be compelled to Uke ttie loud under the Public Works Act."

THE TOOTBMDGE. The question ot the footbridge was then again bipu.gty; up. Ttie plans submitted by ths Oltrka of the rospiCtw* JJqardfj

wore CMr' j fu iy considered, and it was finally mm pi by Mr Flatmao, seconded hy Mr .Ueliei.zy.'rind cariied -"That plans I for the extension of the footbridge, nocorli'-g to this Board's vitstvs, be sent lo the Town Board with estimated cost of erection, and asking the Brnrd if thoy would be willing to p»y half cost of same." FINANCE. Mr Deßenzy moved, Mr Flaiua«n seconded, and it was cnrrTed—"That tU sum of £SOO due on the 20th of October, 1887, be deposited in the Bank of New South Wales for nine months." SMALL BIKDS' NUISANCE. It was decided to request Mr W. Collmnn to collect the eggs and birds on the same terms as last yeir. ' THE BOARD'S PLANTATIONS. The Overseer whs instructed to report on the Advisability of e'earing tbo rubbish and cutting off the lower limbs of the trees ia the Board's plantations. ACCOUNTS.
