AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. timaru. ‘ Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows : A fair amount of business has been done, both by auction and privately, during the past fortnight. Sheepskins, etc. —In addition to a fair catalogue of sheepskins in his rooms on the morning of the last sale fully a thousand came in by rail during the sale. Although pleased to receive his friends’ consignments at any time he would remind them that it is desirable that just a little more time should be allowed for classing, etc., or in some cases full justice might not be done them. He sold crossbreds at from 3s to 6s; merinos,, 3s to ss. Eat and hides at last quotations. Horses —He is pleased to report a good inquiry for good draught horses, and any coming forward meet with a ready sale at satisfactory prices. The following are his transactions for the week:—The sale of the well-known draught stallion Prince Victor, from Mr J. T. Bourn, of Makikihi, to Mr Robt. Hunt, of Pleasant Point, at a price that met the views of both C'as. Mr Hunt is to he congratuon his securing so valuable a stallion as'the champion of Clydesdales at last year’s show, and the farmers of the district should be pleased to have such a horse among them. He has also disposed of 18 draught mares and geldings, among which were 3 sold to Mr Douglas, of Waihao, realising near upon £7O, and the property of Mr P. Stratford; 1 at £2O; I at £l6 ; and sat from £8 to £l3; and, on account of Mr Ivess, his well-known mare Nellie for £l2; 1 waggonette for £24; harness and usual sundries.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
SvDNBy, Sept. 30. New Zealand wheat is 3s 3d to Ss 41 ; New Zealand oats, 2s to 2s 3d ; maize, 3s 6d to 3s 8d ; potatoes, 455, Adelaide, Sept. SO, Wheat is quiet at 8s 7d. Town flour is quoted at £9 to £9 ss; country brands, £S 5s to £8 10s. Freights oe greasy wool are |d ; on scoured wool, |d, ENGLISH MARKETS. Londojt, Sept. 29. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed slock have advanced 10s, and are now at par, At the wool auctions to-day 10,200 bales were offered, making a total of 218.000 submitted during the series There was a fair demand. The withdrawals to date amount to 28,000 bales, Oct. 1. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock have advanced 10s, to 100^. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 33s fid, and New Zealand 30s to SBs, according to quality. Adelaide flour is 28s. The total quantity of whetit and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1.680.000 quarters, and for the Continent ,238,000 quarters. For two off-coast eargoes no offers have been made, Australian tallow, average quality— Beef, 22s 61; mutton, 23s fid. New Zealand frozen mutton, prime quality, remains at 4d per lb. At the wool sales yesterday 9,000 bales were offered, and to-day’s catalogue comprised 7,300 bales. No improvement in demand was shown, and the market was steady, but inactive. Inferior merino wools were Ust sales’ closing rates ; washed fleece Ad to Id lower, and medium scoured lambs’ io 2d lower. The foreign dasaund is small. The number of bales catalogued for the series is 250,000, of which number 84,000 were withdrawn.
