■ Melbourne, Sept. 28. Sailed, at noon to-day—Steamship Waihora, for the Bluff. Sept. 29, The resignation of Mr Peter Lalor, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, was announced in the House this evening. The Hon. Mr H. Davies has resigned his portfolio as Minister, in order to qualify himself for the Speakership. Sydney, Sept. 29. Beach has commenced training for his match with Hanlan, and ip now in goed form. Stormy scenes occurred in the Legislative Assembly last night. Sailei—iiotomahana, s.s., for Auckland. Adelaide, Sapt. 28. Arrived, this morning—Orient steamship Liguria, from London. She has the following passengers for New Zealand : —Mr and Mrs Chapman, Miss Chapman, Messrs Yerands, Wilson, Rev. Woolas, Rev. Clements, and Mrs Harper. Sept. 29.
Arrived—Messageries* s.s, Oceania, from Marseilles. She brings Mauritius news to September 16th, under which data Messra Ireland, Fraser, and Co. report that the sugar market is firm, but the yield is disappointing in quality. Freights to New Zealand are 27s 6d. The stock of sugar on hand is 8706 tons.
