SIR RORERT STOUT.

Christchurch, Sept. 29. Sir Robert Stout and Messrs Reynolds and Larnach arrived by the Tarawera from Dunedin this morning. Sir Robert Stout was cheered at L'Mtolton and at Christchurch, Fully 300 people assembled at the railway station and took the horses from Sir Robert Stout’s cab and drew him to Coker’s Hotel, and heartily cheered him and the other members of the Ministry. Sir Robert Stout, Mr Reynolds, Mr Richardson, and Mr Larnach left by the Tarawera for Wellington this evening. A small crowd of sympathisers took the horses out of Sir, Robert Stout’s and Mr Richardson’s carriage, and drew it to the railway station, where a considerable number of people ceeered them on their departure, A large crowd at Lyttelton cheered Sir Robert Stout as the steamer left the wharf. Dunedin, Sept. 28. The following petition to Sir Robert Stout is being circulated for signature: —“ Sir, we, the undersigned electors of Dunedin, beg to tender you an expression of our sincere sorrow at the loss the colony has sustained through being deprived of your services in Parliament, and we also venture to express the hope, and hereby most strongly urges that you will reconsider your decision as to your retirement from public life. We hope that you will consider that your private opinion and private wish should give way to the interests of the colony, for we fully believe that your services in Parliament are of the utmost importance to the welfare of the people in . the present political crisis, and al- ** though the electors Dunedin last have lost the opportunity of retaining you as their representative, you will see from this requisition that you still possess the thorough confidence of the electors of Dunedin. "Will you therefore kindly inform us if you will allow yourself to be nominated for a constituency should the opportunity offer.”
