IRISH AFFAIRS.
London, Sept. 21. The Irish Nationalists having announced their intention of holding a demonstration at Miichelsfown to.raorrow, when the trial of O’Brien will be commenced, the Government has issued an order forbidding the meeting. Sept. 22. The Daily Chronicle states that the report of Mnnsignor Persisco on the condition of Ireland has convinced the Pope that the Irish national movement is of a revolutionary character, His Holiness is annoyed at the fact that the Phoenix Park murderers were prayed for in church, and has cautioned the Bishops against allowing such prayers to be offered in future. Sent. 23.
The leaders of the Irish party advise the Irish people to adopt a simultaneous resistance to the suppression of the branches of the National Land League in the counties of Clare, Galway, Kerry Cork, and Waterford, as they consider such a course would be the means of compelling the Government to under, take an impossible task, Sept. 24. Michael Davilt has suddenly sailed for New York with, it is believed, the intention of asccrtainins to what ex'onl the Irish Nat ion ol L n ague may reckon on America for moral and physical supI port. The Fenian section of the League I is reported to be procuring rifles, end is being assisted by a large distribution o( revolvers. Sept. 25. The trial of O’Brien took place at Mitcholstown yesterday. In the course ' of the proceedings Mr Haninglou, who defended O’Brien, accused the Gov rnment of purposely suppressing a true version of O’Brien’s speech, and cnlhd upon (he Crown counsel to substantiate his statement, He, however, denied the truth of the accusation against the Government. -The magistrates thereupon rebuked Mr Harrington nnd threatened bis rjectrncnt from the court if such an accusation were repeated. Mr Harrington thereupon abandoned the case, Mr O’Brien was found guil'j and sentenced to three months’imprisonment open two charges, the sentences to be concurrent. He was admitted to bail pending an appeal upon the first sentence.
