THE GOLD FIND AT HIKUTAIA.
Thames, Sept. 9. The new find at Hikutaia is creating a good deal of excitement. In the Warden’s Court ts-d ay, the application of the prospectors, Mestrs Msßrinn, who made the discovery, for a licensed holding of 30 acres was heard. The Warden in a lengthy and exhaustive ruling, explained the difference between the chinos and licensed holdings, and described the new find from personal observation. The reef is 7ft thick, is loose quartz, rich in gold and stiver. The following official assays have been made to-day from a sample of quartz well mixed nod in parcels of half pounds each, as follows: —Bank of New Zealand kssay, gold 98 n zs, silver 17750za per ton. Mr Haighwsy, Ist assay, gold 63ozs, silver ISllozs per ton ; value £570; 2nd assay, gold 9Boza, silver 1807ozs per ton > value £617. The School of Mines assay is, gold 83ozs, silver I7oßozs per too.
