Intimation lias been received that Wyllie, the “ Herd Laddie,” was to leave for New Zealand on the 6th inst. Mr David R. Hay is authorised to make arrangements for players. The body of a man named William Wetherell was found in the Wairau river, twenty-six miles from Blenheim, on Sunday. At the inquest on Monday a verdict of “ Found drowned,” was returned. The deceased, a goldminer, had a claim in the Wairau Valley. Witnesses considered him of unsound mind, and ic was stated he had been in the asylum several times. It is believed he had a mother and sister residing in Christchurch.
