TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board took place last evening. Present—Messrs K. F. Gray . (Chairman)', B. Brown, G. Mason, J. Blyth, and P. Ooira. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. OVERSEER'S .REPORT. The Overseer reported as I have the honor to report directed, I have called for tenders for reforming and shingling Railway Terrace from Commerce street to Wood street; also for shingling footpath and dressing with clay.,; I would suggest that if the contractor is willing to shingle Commerce street at the same rate per yard it would benefit the Board, inasmuch as that street will require shingling before long, One man has only been employed 5 days last, month, finishing cleaning out water-tables and-putting in 4in. pipes in various streets. The only work that I know of that requires immediate attention is in Allnutt street, near Mr Chapman’s and Mr Farquharson’s sections, being a few days’ work for 1 man and 1 horse and dray filling up low places in the footpath. The credit balance in the bank is £253 Bs.~l havej etc.,
Geo. Dison. RAILWAY TERRACE. Messrs Perry and Perry, solicitors, wrote as followsWe are instructed by Mr Job Brown and other owners of property facing on Terrace road to inform you that unless the original levels of such road are at once restored they intend to bold your Board responsible for the damage they have sustained through its action in altering such levels.”— The letter was read. PROPOSED AMENDMENT OP THE TOWN DISTRICTS ACT. A circular was read from the Geraldine Town Board requesting the Board’s co-operation in obtaining an amendment in the Town Districts Act 1881, where County Councils have jurisdiction within Town Districts, giving them the power to collect rate* without any corresponding advantage The circular pointed out that the work to be done on such roads were of a nature that the County Council would never think of doing-such as the formation and asphalting of footpaths, kerbing and channelling same, etc.—lt was decided to co-operate with the Geraldine Town Board.
TENDERS. Tenders were opened for work on the Eailway Terrace as follows; —G. Bateman, £27 4s (accepted); W. Hopkinson, £27 16s; P, O’Meara, £2B 3s 4d; W. Fletcher, £3l4s Id; H. Elkis, £34 11s 7d. FOOTPATHS. The Chairman suggested that some improvement was necessary to the footpath between Mr Storey’s and Mr Money’s shops, where an accident happened on the previous evening. Several members thought the defect was on private property, and eventually it was decided that the Overseer should see Mr Money, and arrange with him in order to have the place repaired. LAMPS. The question of supplying light to the town in lieu of the hotels’ lights was discussed. The Chairman said the police would be satisfied to have one lamp at the Postoffice corner, one near the Temuka Hotel, and one at the Wallingford Hotel. The question was discussed at some length, and it was decided to ascertain the cost of lighting them. i ACCOUNVi. Accounts to the amount of £42 19s 9d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
