THE GLADSTONE ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— Iq reading your valuable paper I saw that Mr Postlethwaite accused Mr Tworaey of inconsistency and changing hi* mind at his meeting at Hilton. I would like through the medium of your paper fco ask him if he is not a very consistent, man who never ohanges his mind. At the tim» when Mr ffeldwiok contest d the Geraldine seat with Mr Wskefield did he not uphold Mr Wakeflold at the perfeot man, and as a politician faultiest P ; but at the next election, when Mr Postlethwaite thought proper to contest the Geraldine seat with Mr Wakefield, did he not say in his address at the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, that aft;? he paid all Mr Wakffield's late eleotion expanses Mr Wak'field still persisted in opposing him, and that he oould tell them things about Mr Wakefield that would make them " shudder in their shoes ? " Secondly, at an address at Temuka did he not say the Atkinson Minis try was one of the most " Yankes-logrollia-j oorrupt Ministries" in existence P and if he did not go back to Wellington within a few weeks and vote for that »ame " Yankee-log-rolling corrupt Ministry ?" And as soon as a dissolution took place did be not bring down to Geraldine one of that "Corrupt Yankeelogrolling Ministry " to contest the Geraldine seat—Mr Bolleaton ? Now, fellow electors, Mr Postlethwaite never changes his mind ; he is always consistent in upholding that "Oorrupt Yankee-logrolliog Ministry" at whatever oost to this his adopted country, at the oost of his own words, and to the disgraoe of those whom he calls friends. Now, fellow electors, beware of him. I will not say he is the fox, but I think he is like the ohameloon : he changes his oolor at ever.r eleotion. First he is white, then he is blue nod 10, behold he is now black with hi* Reform League. Did he not vote with the Ministry that Mr Wakefield supported, and that to raise revenue put Is per lb extra duty on tobacoo, and 12} per oent. extra duty on matohes, and all patent medicine* ? But when a Stoat-Vogsl Ministry offers to raise revenue by froth taxation it is looked upon ss a crime by the Political Beform Association.—l am, etc, An EMSOTOB. Temuka, Sept. sth, 1887.
