AROWHENUA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— -Willyoukindlf give me apace in your valuable paper to address the ratepayers of Arowhenna township. The Town Board was elected by them to do the business of the whole township, and no favor should be shown to any one part. All the roads on the plan when the town was declared a Town District should, and must, remain roads for the convenience of the residents and public. As the new survey would do away with , the terrace road and two others, and cause men, women, and children to go j an extra twenty chains in going to j Temuka and back, the Town Board at a special meeting decided to beep by the j old survey, and keep all the roads open . to the public, and this, I hope, will, be j approved of by the ratepayers of Arc- ( whenus. In one instance the new survey i would close the creek Irom three cotta- t
gors, and they would have to pat pumps down. Now those are poor »rd it would cost each £3, Should tbcj be compelled to do this ; because a few people wish to get more land and close lu the creek, which the new survey would do if adhered to ?»But ''the creek must not be polluted by pigstyes, stockyards, etc, It cost Timaru thousands of pounds to get water into the town not so, good as this creek. Now, the old survey is a protection" to a beautiful stream, of water, which hundreds of human beings drink, from. Shall they be denied the rightef-way to it to please a few ? If Government was in error in selling to the creek's edge shall'- they continue through the town ? I say No. It ia-said that to*. Board would get £2OO by the new survey. Well tb«y would have to build iwo bridges, which would take all the money, and the land and roads would be lost to the public for am,,etc,,. .G. Edge&er. ...'.. Arowhenua, Aug. 19„.i8.87.
