Melbourne, Aug. 10. Arrived—Tarawera, from the Bluff. The i urchase of the Telephone Company's business by the Government has been completed, the price agreed upon being £40,000. Th« Associated Banks to-day decided to reduce the rate of interest on fixed deposits by t per cent. Sydney, Aug. 10. Sailed—Alameda, for San Francisco, via Auckland. Parliament meets on the 20th proximo. Brisbane, Aug, 10. The Hon. Mr Dickson, Colonial Treasurer, has resigned, owing to a disagreement with his colleagues on the question of additional taxation, which he considers unnecessary.
