Mundell and 00. submit to auction the Crown Hotel property, Geraldine, and on Monday the same firm bold a sale of skins. On Tuesday Mr W. S. Mailin holds a sale of furniture, drapery, and produce at Geraldine.

Thb Stoct-Vogkl Party.— The StoutVogel party appear to be carrying the country with them, while their opponents seem to be in despair. Sir Eobert Stout addressed a meeting last Thursday in Blenheim, and, despite some opposition, he received a vote of thanks and confidence. He was heartily cheered by an immense crowd: as he left for Wellington. St, John Ambulance Society,— Ladies and gentlemen desirous of forming a branch of this Society at Temuka, and of forming a class for a course of lectures on " First Aid to the Injured,” aro requested to oommunicase with the Eev. T. A. Hamilton or Mr E. Pinckney before the 27th inst. In our next we will give some particulars about the objects of the Society. Death pbom Drowning.— On last Wednesday throe youths, named McGr*th, and Fred, and William Gullick were drowned in the rivet Avon, at a place near Dallington. The river was in flood and they, with two others, were crossing it in a fiat-bottomrd boat to go home from their work. The boat was swamped and the above-named three youths were drowned. The Gband National Steeplechase*.— In our advertising columns will be'found the train arrangements for the convenience of those deeirous of witnessing the Grand National Steeplechase at Christchurch on the 28th July. The first train from Timaru for Christchurch will start earlier on that day, and the excursion tickets issued will be available till the Ist August. Football. —A match between the Temuka and Geraldine Clubs takes place at Geraldine to-day, An. express leaves Temuka at 1 o'clock,—Tho following team will play for Winchester against; south Canterbury on Thursday next : Austin (2), Hart, G. Smith, Simpson, Stewart (2), Lewis, J. Clinch, H. Jamer, Wagstulf, Brinkman, Shallard (2), W. Stewart; emergencies, A. Bissefc and E. McLeod. Major Atkinson’s Campaign,— At Opunake Major Atkinson met with a warm reception, At times there was such an uproar that not a word could be heard. The Chairman at last left the oh ir and the meeting oloied in great disorder. Even when the lights of the hall were put out and the door closed a large body of electors remained in the open air arguing with each other. Saltation Abmy.— On Wednesday Captain Molnnes, of the Salvation Army, who has for the past 10 months been in charge of the Temnka corps, left for Oxford to fill a similar position. During his stay in Temnka Captain Molnnes earned for himself not only the liking of his immediate followers but also the respect and esteem of members of other denominatiors. His plaoe at Temuka will be filled by Captain Kessell, formerly in charge of a detachment of the Army at Milton. Captain Kessell, with bis wife, arrived in Temuka on Thursday evening, and commenced hie duties the same evening. Geraldine Floral and Hobtioutubal Society. —The annual meeting of the member* of this Society was held in the Good Templars’ Hall, Geraldine, on Thursday evening last, M-J. W. Pye, Vice-President, occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet. On the motion of Mr ti. Ward, seconded by Mr G- H. Patrick, these were adopted as read. The election of officer* for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and resulted a* follow* ; President, Dr Fish ; Vice-President, Mr J. Pye; Treasurer, Mr J. W. Pye; Secretary, Mr A. Fieher; Auditor, Mr J. 8. Waite j Committee, Messrs Leary, Chapman, J. Pye, Hay, Buughen, Eamble, Ward, Williams, White, and Coles. A vote of thanks to the retiring officer* was passed, and the meeting terminated.—A Committee meeting was held afterwards, at. which it wafl decided to fix the Secretary’s salary at five guineas per annum. Committee. A suggestion was made that a special prize should be given ut the next exhibition to children who grew the best vegetables. A PLBASANT El'BKISQ’fl HnTBBTAINMENT —The Coffee Supper, with Fisk Jubilee gongi, at the Wesleyan Church, Temuks, postponed on account of the severity of the weather, is now arranged for Tuesday next, when the Eev. W. B. Marten, of Timaru, and others are expected to address the audience present Eibotobaii Eights.— Persons who have not yet registered their votes ought to do so at once. Mr Stubbs is the Begistration Officer for the Gladstone district, and Mr Ward, Ashburton, the Begistration Officer for the Bangitata district. All any elector has to do is to fill in a voting paper, put it in an envelope addressed to the Begiitrar of Electors for the electoral district in which he desires to have a vote, and post it, It goes without a stamp. Fatal Accident at Gobs.—A dreadful accident happened at Gore, Olago, yesterday morning, by which a girl named Isabella MoKane, a servant at Waimea, lost her life, In company with another girt, Bella Campbell, she was being driven by a man named 8. Robinson from a dance at Biversdale to W»imea, and the horse bolted. Miss McXane was thrown out, and her clothing catching the buggy wheels she was dragged for two miles. .Robertson and Miss Campbell were also thrown out and seriously hurt, both being unconscious at latest accounts. Towir Impbovbmehis Some noticeable changes have recently taken place in the business portion of the Main street, Temuka. The premises formerly occupied by Mr Oopestake have been leased from Mr Job Brown by Messni Fauvel and Wilson, who have commenced business as general storekeepers. The entire building has been elevated about 9 inches. The partitions have been removed nd re-arranged, so as to

permit of the formation of a commodious front shop, a large storeroom and an office. The shop is fitted with shelving throughout, one side being devoted to the general grocery and hardware business and the other to drapery. At the rear of the shop, detached about 20 fret, is a building which will be used for storage purposes, and at the lower end of the section a good two-stall stable has been erected. The painting of the premises has not yet been commenced, bat when completed, the shop will present a very neat and | business-like appearance. Messrs JTauvel \ and Wilson will doubtless receive a fair 1 share of public support. On the section adjoining premises are being erected for Mr Thomas Barr. These will consist of a confectioner’s shop with dwelling rooms and a large bakery in brick. When the whole is completed, the general appearance of the street will be greatly improved. Opposite the Ooutthous ■, on the site of the house formerly occupied by Mr Bryant, an office is to be erected for Mr A. M. Clark, The blacksmith’s shop adjlining has been converted into a stable and coachhouse. Rahway Refreshment Rooms, Txmabtt —D. McGuinness bogs to inform his numerous friends, and the travelling public in particular, that having taken the above rooms for a fresh term he has decided to reduce the charges hitherto made, and in future they will be as follow Breakfast in readiness for early trains, Is 6d; Hot Lunch or Dinner, served up in the hitherto well-known profuse style, on arrival of North and South i Express trains, la 6d. Tea and Coffee always in readiness, and choice confectionery, &o. The lessee would especially draw attention to the Ladies’ Private Dining-room, which has been specially arranged and furnished for their convenience. A waitress is always in attendance.
