Sir Julius Vogel addresses his constiuenta at Christchurch this evening. At the Dunedin Supreme Court on Saturday, in the cage of malicious prosecution, the jury gave a three-fourths verdict for £lO damages against J. P. Walsh, who had charged John Roy with stea'ing a saddle. The death is announced at Dunedin of Sergeant-Major Stevens, an old arm officer, who served in the Indian mutiny and at the Khyber Pass. He was wounded at Taranaki in the Maori war and he never quite recovered from the effects. He was accorded a military funeral.
Tbe South American Journal remarks that they are going ahead at a tremendous rata in the Argentine Republie, especially as regards the construction of railways. It is calculated, by a local paper that if all the railways proposed to Congress during tbe present session be carried into execution fully 50,600 railway navvies will have to be at work next year in that country.
