AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. GERALDINE.

Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for tbe week ending Saturday, 16th July, 1887, as follows - At the Geraldine monthly sale on Monday the entries of stock were not so large as our previous sales, owing to the sale being postponed from the usual day (Wednesday) on account of the continued heavy rain, but all stock yarded, sheep especially, sold at rates showing a decided improvement on prices lately ruling. The totals yarded were 1100 sheep, 24 head of . cattle, and 2 ( 2 pigs. Prices realised were

Sheep—Fat crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 4 and S tooth, Us ; crossbred stores, 2 tooth, 5s lOd to 9s; crossbred ewes in lamb, full-mouth, 7s ; halfbred hoggets, 4s 6d.

Cattle—Pit cows, £3 15s to £5 ; dry cows, £2 10s to ±3 5s ; 2-year-old steers, £8 7s 6d ; yearling steers and heifers, £1 10s; calves, 14s. Pigs—Bacon sorts, £2 12s 6d ; sows in pig, £1 ss; small stores, 9s 6d to 10b.

At Winchester yards, on Tuesday, the entry of stock was small. We sold 7 2-year-old steers and heifers at £2 to £2 10s ; 4 dry cows at £2 ; 2 cows, in full profit, at £3 10s; yearling steers and heifers, at 153 to £1 10s ; 4 calves, at 8s; 13 store pigs, at 4s 6d to J2a. TIMAKU. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday as follows;

Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazrar on the 9th iost., and again to-day, our entries were smaller than usual, and the quality of the draughts, with few exceptions, was inferior. The demand for good young draughts continues brisk, and several buyers were disappointed to-day in not getting their wants supplied. Good hacks are also in better demand. We disposed of nearly all our entry to-day at—for medium draughts up to £2O; inferior, £6 to £lO ; hacks, medium to good, £8 to £l3 ; light and weedy, £3 to £7. Cattle—Th» demand for beef is dull, and prices obtained at the various sales are no improvement on former rates. We quote 17s per lOOibs for beat steers. At Pleasant Point on the 4th iost, there was a considerable entry of fat and stores, and a large proportion changed hands. We sold 15 head at from £2 10s to £4 15s. At Washdyke, on Thursday, there was an average entry of fat and stores. There was but little business done in the former, but most of the stores changed hands at for yearlings 15s to 20s ; 2-year-olds 40s to 60s; calving cows £4 2s 6d to £7 2s 6d. We sold privately 23 head fat cattle at quotations. Sheep—At Pleasant Point on the 4th inst., the yards were not so well filled as at the two former sales. There was keen competition for all lots at a noticeable *«ivance in prices. We sold 92 ewes at 8s sd, 155 ewes at 8s 6d, 100 ewes at 7s 4d to 7s 6d. At Washdyke, on Thursday, we sold for various owners 355 fat ewes at 8s to 8s 6d, 460 half-bred ewes in lamb at 4s 9d. At Winchester on the 12th, business was quiet. We sold 100 merino wethers, prime, at Gs 4d. Privately we placed 400 freezers and 400 crossbred ewes.

Pigs—At the Washdykoand Point sales we sold 34 weaners and slips at from & 6d to 8a 6d.

Skins—At our sale on Wednesday vre offered and sold over 1500 skins at a slight advance on former prices, Best butchers’ skins realised from 3e 9d, 4s, 4s Id, 4s sd, to 5s Id ; country skins in proportion. Country Sales—We held a clearing sale yesterday on account of Mr M. Maae, at his farm Upper Totara, and disposed of sheep, cattle, horses, and implements at satisfactory values. Bidding for the pro* perty did not reach the owner’s expectation, and was passed.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, July 15. Wheat is 3s lOd to 3s lid. Town flour, £9 10s to £lO ; country brands, £8 5s to £8 10s. Sydney. July 15. New Zealand wheat is 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; New Zealand oats, Is 9d to 2s 3d ; maize, 3s 3d ; potatoes, 40s to 455.

ENGLISH, MARKETS. London, July 14. Scotch pig iron No. 1, f.o.b. Clyde, has declined by 3s, to 44s per ton. The wool sales closed to-day. Three hundred and forty-nine thousand five hundred bales were offered during the series, and 30,000 hare been reserved. The opening decline in prices was entirely recovered, but the advance on floe quality wools has been partially lost. All descriptions are about at par with the April closing sale rales. July 16. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is unchanged at 85s; New Zealand ditto, 35a to 365, according to quality. Adelaide flour, ex store, 24e 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,930,000 quarters, and for the Continent 780,000. Australian tallow—Average quality beef, 220 6d j mutton, 245,

New Zealand frozen mutton, prime quality, remains at 3|d to 4d. Wool is quiet, but steady. Arrivals to date for the next auction comprise 200,000 bales,
