A telegram appeared ia the Christchurch Press on Tuesday last to the effect that Mr W. Postlethwaite was coming forward to contest the Gladstone sea‘, hut tin’s, we are assured by that gentleman, is a pure mistake. He has no intention whatever of coming forward. Mr A, B. Smith is a candidate for the Gladstone seat.

Mr E. 6. Kerr haa abandoned his resolve to contest the Gladstone seat, aud will now stand for T'maru.

Mr John Manchester is mentioned as, a probable candidate for Waimate. Auckland; July 11.

H. R. Jury, a candidate for Newton,' employed in the Government Railway Workshops, has been summarily dismissed for engaging in politics. The Trade and Labor Council, on Friday evening, adopted the,following resolution : —“ The Trades and Labor Counoil regret that the fact of any workman aspiring to benefit his fellow men should be the means of depriving him of his living, and that this Council wire to the Public Works Minister, asking him to inquire into the summary dismissal of Mr H. R. Jury, as the Trades and Labor Council consider that a great injustice has been done him.”
