.—♦ AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam report for tbe past fortnight us follows : | Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazaar on tbe 14th instant, over 40 horses were entered for sale, but business during the day was exceedingly quiet. .On Saturday we entered 56 head of all classes, and although a large proportion of these were really good farm sorts, sales were difficult to effect, and prices, with a few exceptions, barely up to former rates. Medium to good draughts sold at from £ls to £2llos ; aged and inferior,' £8 to £l2; hacks and light harness horses, medium quality, £lO to £l4 j weedy sorts, from £2. Cattle—At Washdyke on Thursday, the yards were well filled with a better olass of both fat and stores than has been seen there for months past. Competition for piime fat cattle was brisk, and nearly all the good lots were disposed of at equal to 18s per 1000 b. Well forward stores were also in good demand. We sold 8 head fa* bullocks, at £6 7s 6d to £6 10*, 13 head at £5 tn £5 bs, 6 steers at £4 10s, 6 heifers at £3, 6 cows at £3 6", 5 conrs at £2 to £3 17s 6d, 16 heifers at 30s t» 37n, 18 calves at 7s to 10s, 5 calvers at £4 7s 6d to £6 10s. We sold privately, at Makikihi, 21 head young stores, and at Timaru 17 fat bul'ocka at quota'ions. Sheep—The demand for fat sheep has improved during the post week, and values are considerably higher for freezers and young stores for turnip feeding. At Washdyke, on Thursday, we sold 35 fat ewes at 7s 2d, 111 wethers at 7s, 100 ewes at 6s, and, privately, we placed 596 fat 2 toothed wethers and ewes, 573 2 and 4-ioothsd crossbrede, 356 2-toothed wethers, and 2500 crossbred ewes. Pige—-At Washdyke we sold 27 store pigs—6 at 19s, sat I4=, 4at 12s, 4at 4s 6d, and 8 at 4s. Sheep Skins—At our regular sale on Wednesday, we catalogued and sold over 3000 skins. There was a full attendance of buyers, and prices realised were a decided improvement ou the last two Biles. Best butchers'skins fetchod up to 3s 7d ; full-woolled station skins, 4s 6d to 5s 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, May 20. Wheat is 3s 3d to 3s 7d ; oats, 28 to 2s 4d ; maize, 3s to 3s 2i per 58lb ; potatoes, 50s to 52s 6d per ton. The potato market is glutted. Adelaide, May 20. Wheat is at 4s 2d, very firms Flour is firmer, country brands selling from £8 10s to £8 15s, town brands £9 10s to £9 15a per ton. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 20. The wheat market is hardening, but the demand is slack. The markets on the Continent are firm. American quotations, after the recent rise, are receding. Three Australian cargoes have been sold at prices ranging from 37a to 38* per quarter. Parcels direct for London are offered at 35a. Consignments on the spot are realising 38s. The weather is s^rmy. Australian beef tallow, 22s ; mutton, 235. The wool arrival list is closed with 360,000 bales. Rabbitskins have advanced 4d per lb.
